Politics: Kogi People Already Gave Yahaya Bello A Second Term

Kingsley Fanwo, the Director-General, Media and Publicity to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state, in this interview, speaks on the political situation in the state and the chances of his principal ahead of the November 16 governorship election. TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI brings the excerpts:

How will you rate the administration of Alh Yahaya Bello in the last three and half years since his assumption of office as Governor of Kogi State?

It has been so far so good. He has done very well in repositioning and rebuilding the state from the ashes of the past. He has done well in turning Kogi State to an Agricultural hub. He has revolutionised education by creating better environment for teaching and learning in our schools. Industrial actions are now things of the past in our tertiary institutions. The Governor has done well in the area of security too by turning around a state notorious for violent crimes to a state that is now nationally rated as the second most beautiful in the country. The administration has constructed many roads, schools, health facilities as well as water facilities across the state. But the most cherished of the sterling achievements of this administration has been the success at uniting the state. Before now, we were splintered along terrible lines of division. Today, ethnic trust has replaced ethnic distrust. The Governor has broken the fences of division. He has also given power to a generation of youthful minds who are now serving the young and the old in a more pragmatic manner.

Your administration has been severally accused of owing months of salaries. What are the efforts put in place to address the issue?

Let me start by thanking the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Capt. Idris Wada for helping us to clear the air that salary issues didn’t start with us. Despite belonging to a different political party, he came out to vindicate us. He told the world that it was because of the challenge in paying salaries that his administration applied for N80b bailout. N50b was approved and we have only been able to access 20 billion Naira from the approved sum. We hope to get the balance soon so that we can clear the few months we are owing. The Governor has already given a commitment to clear the arrears as soon as he gets the bailout. It is an inherited problem that he is working hard to solve. He inherited months of salary arrears from his predecessor. But he is determined to solve the problem permanently. He also deserves commendation for repositioning the civil service.

But the Governor has been criticised by his opponents as having not done any project in the State. What is your take on that?

When you are hailed by your political opponents who want the power you are holding, get worried. They see you as beatable. But when they cry hoax and venture into propaganda to attack you, they are surely afraid of your reputation. The detractors are seeing what the Governor is doing. A former House Of Representatives from Yagba Federal Constituency once went on a national television to claim the Governor had not done anything. But his constituents called him out, reminding him that the Governor has built the second largest Rice Mill in the former legislator’s LGA of Yagba West. These people are wailing because for the first time, gerontocracy was rested. For the first time, an Igala man became a Chief Of Staff to a Governor of Ebira extraction. For the first time, The godfathers milking the state dry have no more access to the treasury. For the first time, Kogi’s resources are working for Kogi people. When you confront them with the facts, they will quickly accuse you of lying. The immediate past Minister of Health came to Kogi and told other Governors to learn from what we are doing with healthcare delivery here. The people know their Governor and their Governor knows them.

How was the Governor able to achieve unity in the state?

He didn’t mouth it. He acted it. He demonstrated it. He practicalised it. Unity is not a word but an act. Appointing someone from another tribe as his Chief Of Staff sent the right signals to the people. They knew change had come. Distribution of appointments and projects were equitably done. He demonstrated the uncommon leadership trait of equity, fairness and justice. Today, we are united more than ever. The Governor consciously and conscientiously removed the ethnic barriers. That has promoted peace, stability and security.

Do you see the Governor winning a second term?

The people of Kogi state already gave him a second term by supporting the party he led to the polls in February and March. They said he wasn’t popular. The people said he was popular. So it is not about my feeling but the people. The people spoke in February and March and will speak again in November. The Governor will win resoundingly and dwarf previous guber election figures. He is with the people and the people are with him.

Politics: Hope Democratic Party (HDP) Assured Buhari Must Not Be Sworn-in On May 29

ABUJA – The Hope Democratic Party, HDP, on Tuesday, filed a motion before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja for an order to restrain the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, from swearing-in President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29.

The party and its presidential candidate, Chief Ambrose Owuru, further applied for an order of the tribunal to restrain President Buhari from presenting himself on May 29 or any other date “for swearing in or inaugurate ceremony or taking the Oath of Allegiance and oath if office as the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, pending the determination of this petition and the question as to whether he has been validly elected as challenged and pending before the court”.

It will be recalled that HDP and its candidate are currently challenging the declaration of President Buhari as winner of the February 23 presidential election

In their petition marked CA/ PEPC/001/2019, the party, urged the tribunal to nullify the outcome of the election and order a fresh poll.

Owuru who secured a total of 1,663 in the presidential election, insisted that the election was not conducted in compliance with the Electoral Act.

Meantime, President Buhari, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, persuaded the tribunal to grant a short adjournment to enable them respond to the motion.

Consequently, the Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa led tribunal which is conducting its proceedings at the Court of Appeal Headquarters in Abuja, adjourned the the case till May 22 for hearing.

Liverpool Vs Barcelona: Lessons I Learnt From The Champion’s League Match

It’s no longer news that Barcelona has been sent off from this year’s champion league tournament after being defeated by Liverpool 4-3 in England on Tuesday, May 7
First leg saw Barcelona thrashing Liverpool 3-0 in Spain last Tuesday

Liverpool has now proceeded to this year’s Champion’s league final with 4-3 aggregate against Barcelona

Ajax plays Tottenham Hotspur later on Wednesday for the semi’s and one of the two teams is to play Liverpool come June 1 for the final.

Below are some of the lesson I learnt from the super game:

1. Don’t give up while running after success

2. The law of football says: The “final whistle” is the ‘decider.’ Please, just wait for it before celebrating.

3. Always stay focus in life. This will help you to achieve your aim in life.

4. Be fearless. The brave always wins.

5. Be smart. Always, prepare ahead.

6. Don’t underrate people.

Politics: Tribunal Commences Hearing On Atiku’s, Other Petitions Against Buhari, APC

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal will Wednesday, May 8, formally commence hearing in the petitions filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his party, the PDP and three other political parties and their presidential candidates against the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku, PDP and the others, in their various petitions, are seeking the nullification of Buhari’s victory at the February 23 presidential poll on allegations of widespread rigging, violations of the Electoral Act, suppression of voters, violence amongst other electoral malpractices.

The others include: the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) and its presidential candidate, Chief Ambrose Owuru; Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) and its presidential candidate, Pastor Aminchi Habu and the Coalition for Change (C4C) and its presidential candidate, Jeff Ojinka.

Atiku, in his petition, specifically asked the tribunal to disqualify Buhari as winner of the February 23 presidential election, on the grounds that he (Buhari) did not possess the requisite academic qualification to contest for the office of President.

The petition, which is premised on five grounds, alleged that Buhari lied about his academic qualification as well as schools attended in his form 001 submitted to INEC for purpose of contesting the 2019 presidential election.
Atiku and PDP had filed their petition against the outcome of the election at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) in Abuja, on March 18, 2019.

While the HDP and Owuru’s petition marked CA/EPT/PRE/001/2019, was filed March 7, the petition of the C4C along with its presidential candidate and that of the PDM and its presidential candidate were file same day, March 19, 2019.

However, a statement by the Media Officer of the Court of Appeal, Saadatu Musa Kachalla, on Tuesday, said that the “Presidential Election Petition Tribunal Panel will begin its inaugural session on Wednesday, 8th May 2019 at the Abuja Division courtroom. Time 9.00am”.

While Atiku and the PDP, in grounds 1-3 of their petition, specifically attacked the conduct of the February 23, presidential election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), they asked the tribunal on grounds 3-5 to disqualify Buhari on the grounds that he was not qualified to have contested the election in the first place and as such all votes accredited to him by INEC should be declared as wasted votes.

Owuru, Habu and Ojinka, in their separate petitions, however, prayed the tribunal to nullify the election of Buhari on grounds of alleged massive rigging of the February 23 presidential election as well as substantial non compliance with provisions of the law by the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

Business: How To Be Successful In Life

HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE

This is not like every other success write up you use to know; its high time we spit the truth...
What do you understand success to be?
Success for me could be having a billion dollars in my account, success for you could be your achievements in changing lives of people every step of the way, success for others could be the number of awards they achieved...
Our definition for success differs greatly, just as our strategies of achieving it differs

The very first step in getting the spirit of success is to first define your own success. What do you want to achieve? Is it money, awards, changing lives, women or estates? Define it... with a definition you have a road map on which you plan on.
You must also understand that you must first succeed with little things before you can succeed with bigger things...

Now lets be very plain here...

The road to success is very bleeped up; not a smooth ride... they tell you success is like climbing up a ladder... sorry bro you have been lied to... the road to success is scary, full of traps and bombs, water and fire, enemies upon enemies, trust and betrayals, jumping and diving, running and hiding...
There are certain things you must understand so you don’t get frustrated in your pursuit of success
1. No one is going to fix you, you got to fix yourself
2. You must accept yourself the way you are
3. Life will never be perfect
4. Those who complain must achieve less
5. No one has it all figured out
6. Enemies will accumulate
7. You are not special
8. Being too kind is a weakness
9. Success is not achieved by hard work

1. NO ONE IS GOING TO FIX YOU, YOU GOT TO FIX YOURSELF
Not one person will fix you, you alone will build your success tower as you encounter increasing challenges. No one will fix you because everyone is busy fighting their own battle, they don’t care how difficult your life is because they have theirs to worry about.
For success to be reached you must kill the entitlement mentality, no one owes you anything, you are not entitled to any share/part of anybody’s wealth, not even your parents

2. YOU MUST ACCEPT YOURSELF THE WAY YOU ARE
They say we are all beautifully and fearfully made... yes some persons are unattractive or scary to look at and they owe you no apology about it. Reason is because the real you doesn't start from your face but your mind. Do you have a problem with your looks? You are feeling unattractive? Well then feel free to have a facial surgery, change your skin colour but I promuise you that every time you look in the mirror, the first thing your mind tells you is “this can never be you”... you can change your face but not who you are.
Low self esteem is a curse that needs to be fought out of one’s mind if you wish to be successful because of you do nothing about it, it will breed and reproduce in your mind and get you tied to your comfort zone

3. LIFE WILL NEVER BE PERFECT
As a film director, one of the lessons you learn is that you can not always have what you want. I know many of us picture a perfect success, maybe a full luxurious house, expensive cars, super gadgets... success is step by step until the end, you can not always have it all, what you picture may not be exactly what you will get. Even if you get it all, from luxury house to expensive fast cars to super gadgets, you surely wouldn’t have time for some of these things which will end up lying hardly used or touched; life will never be perfect but it can always be better

4. THOSE WHO COMPLAIN MOST ACHIEVE LESS
Same thing applies to those who boast most... actions are better appreciated than words.
Since when has complaining solved problems, the best complains can do for you is advance into lamentations and attract sympathy for you because that all you deserve. Stop complaining and do something about your problems because if you don’t, no one will

5. NO ONE HAS IT ALL FIGURED OUT
In the road map of success there are lots of puzzles to be solved, some you would solve, some will take a while, but there are some you will never figure out; at this point do not waste much time on this part of life because if you do, you would prolong your success time and still wouldn’t figure them out
How do I end corruption?
How do I deal with evil?
How do I eradicate poverty?
How do I make the world love me?
How can I be the best?
How do I succeed without offending others?
Save yourself the trouble and move on with your life...

6. ENEMIES WILL ACCUMULATE
Either you believe it or not, your success will become a thorn to some other persons. In life there is the ongoing competition of greatness, this is a struggle that will never end; just as you can’t walk through the bushes without stepping on the grasses, you can’t walk through success without stepping on toes or getting in other people’s way... the higher you climb, the more your enemies...

7. YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL
You could be intelligent, smart, you could be lucky with opportunities but never proclaim yourself special in mind or in words. There are thousands who are better than you, you are only priveledged and not special. The same cancer that killed that guy can also kill you, the same accident that killed that girl can also kill you, you fall from the 5th floor you get broken to pieces, you get bitten by a venomous snake you die.
You are nothing but just a man working to enjoy life just like others

8. BEING TO KIND IS A WEAKNESS
“Bro please can I borrow you laptop?”
“I’m sorry you can’t”
“Please bro... I need to get this project done”
“I don’t give out my office... this is where I do my business”
“So you can’t help a brother”
“Sorry I can’t... go to a cyber cafe”...
What if you give out your laptop and it gets stolen, what would you do?
Too much of everything is bad... if you give women too muc h attention, you will begin to look like poo to them.
If you do not know how to say “No” you become used by others who would take advantage of your kindness
You must learn to say “NO” when its necessary and it must be confidently and firmly...
Saying yes to every Tom, Dick and Harry can lead to your own detriment and get you off success track

9. SUCCESS IS NOT ACHIEVED BY HARD WORK
The truth is, not every one will make it in life, this is because many are busy working hard not smart

You want to be a CEO? You want to be the boss? Then you must quit working hard and start working smart.
If hard work is the road to success, brick layers, conductors, street hawkers will all be rich because these people are hard workers
I knew of a woman who owned a large fashion firm with over 20 employees but funny enough she doesn't know how to pedal a sewing machine... hard workers will forever remain employees and not employers.

You cannot be a CEO if you are not smart

Celebrity: Open Letter To Tonto Dikeh By ExcelDeBaron

A Nairalander known as ExcelDeBaron has put up an open letter to Tonto Dikeh concerning her private life. ExcelDeBaron's open letter is as follows:

Tonto Tonto Tonto!!! How many times did I call you? 3 times. Am taking out my time to pen this letter because you were my crush one time before. Am not happy with what is happening with you now and am aware of the dire consequences of your actions in the future. I wont want to make this a long read so I will bring out the 3 most bad consequences of what you are cooking now.

First and foremost, The Igbos have a saying that "Okenye adighi anona na ulo, ewu amuo na ogbuli". When you see some people putting mouth in your matter, its not really as if they are judging you or telling you how to heal. Hell No! They are only trying to remind you the dire consequences of your action.

Hope you will be happy tomorrow when small primary and secondary school children calls your child;

(1) Son of two seconds man? Son of Juju man? Son of a mad woman? Hope you know these small children of nowadays are something else and have access to more data and phone than books? How many fights are you willing to go and fight in school? Tonto, you go cry oo. Nobody is trying to blackmail you with your child. These are facts am stating. Because its becoming obvious that you dont really care about this your child with Churchill. You want to destroy him too. If you did, why bringing all these personal stuffs about Churchill to the public space? Hope you are aware that you can't remove Churchill from that Kid's life forever? Tonto! Tonto!! Tonto!!!

(2) Tonto, are you happy with the way you are spreading bad energy through nollywood? Hope you know that you have divided many celebrities against each other? They loved each before (Sarcasm). What do you think will be the situation now? Tonto, you are gaining relevance the wrong way.

(3) Tonto, are you aware that no company will want to have anything to do with you by a long stick? You are obviously a bad market and nobody will want a situation where if things don't work out tomorrow, you will spill company secrets. Because of this, no endorsements and no branding. Which means that you will be more broke! Is that what you really need now to support your kid?

Tonto, stop this bad energy. If you are sure that Churchill is all this bad, whoever advised you to destroy him this way is your enemy. Tonto, change your circle of advisers and friends immediately. The person that advised you that you will make billions off youtube from this Unclad dance in the market square is a morron.

Hope not later now, you will come out with a fake outburst of breakdown seeking public sympathy? Hope you won't tell us that you were not yourself and regret your actions? We no go gree oo. I drop my pen!!!

ExcelDeBaron writes from a small Estate in Lagos.

NYSC: Update On Increment Of NYSC Allowance

The Lagos State coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mohammed Momoh, has said the federal government is yet to release a circular ordering the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage for corps members.

Former NYSC Director General, Suleiman Kazaure, had assured that there would be an increase in the payment for corps members in accordance with the increment in national workers’ wage.

The federal government in April 2019 had approved the N30,000 minimum wage for workers in the country by signing it into law. But the law is yet to be implemented by the NYSC, in the payment of corps members.

Reacting to this, Momoh in an interview with TVC News said the service is waiting for the federal government to give it the go ahead to begin the implementation of the new law.

“The effective date of implementation would be stated on the circular and any corps member that falls within that said period and is qualified for the monthly allowance would benefit from the increase if and when the implementation starts.

“Corps members are Nigerians and it is only expected that they would benefit from the increase. At the appropriate time, the federal government would fix the allowance for corps members. This would then be made public by the NYSC.

“I have no doubt that the federal government would do the needful in accordance with the minimum wage.”

Politic: Donald Trump's Speech on Why he hate Africans

*They are good in nothing else but making noise, dancing, marrying many wives, alcoholism, witchcraft, indulging in sex, pretending in church, jealousy, fighting and complaining of bad leadership; but, yet refuse to take a decisive action and protest to remove the brigands from position of power.*
*Let us all accept the fact that the black man is a symbol of poverty, mental inferiority, laziness and emotional incompetence. To make the matter worse, he can do everything possible to defend his stupidity. Give them money for development and they will fight and create hatred and enmity for themselves. Drill oil wells for them and they will not have peace all the days of their life.*

*See, for instance, what's happening in Nigeria (a Country blessed with abundant resources), Southern Sudan, Malawi, DRC just to mention a few.*
*"This proves to anybody including a stupid fool that Africans do not know what they want. isn't that plausible"?*
*"They are like monkeys looking for already ripping banana all over the world!!!.*
*Therefore that the white man is created to rule the black man, Africans will always have day dreams.*
*And here is the creature (black man) that lacks foresight but only sees what is near him and still fails to know what to do"*
*A black man is stupid to the extent that he cannot plan for his life beyond a year. Therefore how can they develop and live longer.*
*"Corruption in the west (And China) is a big abomination, but in Africa, it's so huge that it is slowly becoming an acceptable way of life!!!.*(Shame, isn't it?)
*They sing and rejoice to their corrupt political leaders. They worship their scandal-ridden religious leaders like their gods. Lest you forget, these so called Africans are praising, dancing and praying for the people that have impoverished them, and who comes to hide their loot here.*

*Then which fool argues that the black man is not born a beggar, grows a beggar, looks a beggar, falls sick as a beggar and dies a beggar. this has been proven beyond reasoning.*
*I wonder why even up to now most Africans still go to school by force, and those who are at school are are just drug addicts who don't know what took them there. This is a pregnant stupidity in Africa. The body of Africans is a very fertile ground for all diseases in the world because they don't fear even HIV/AIDS.*
*This leaves me with a question: Are our eyes created the same with those Africans? I hear there are still cultures in Africa that prohibit them from using latrines which is very annoying.*
*"They cried for independence but have failed to rule themselves". For sure being African is a very untreatable disease that even prayers are not enough.*
*They have minerals but they cannot do anything with it. Therefore let us (whites) go to Africa and pick what we can pick and leave what is of no use. Poverty is a disease to the whites, but to the blacks it is very normal.*

*"Look at what is currently going on in Nigeria National Assembly. Legislators amending the constitution to favor themselves at the expense of two (200) million Nigerians. The present administration now have no economic blueprint plan, rather than noise and false propaganda. Characterized with hatred and witch hunt/impoverishment".*
*"Majority of these legislators are treasury looters who are intellectually barren but using the ill gotten wealth to oppress the citizens of that great country".*
*"What a shame"!*
*Black people with black sense, and a sick president in London for medical tourism!!!.*
*The worst tragedy in Africa is that if you dare stand up and speak up for what's right, you may end up regretting.*
*"The few wise and open-minded Africans who have tried to educate these fools about civilization have met the worst. They have been pushed hard on the wall, they have been silenced and others have been killed".*
*Before I finish, let me tell Africans that before you jump and call me a racist, an anti-blacks or whatever term you may wish to use against me,1st tackle runaway corruption, dreadful terrorism, tribalism, poverty, unemployment, diseases, illiteracy, ignorance, and inequality, that have put your whole continent on the verge of collapse".*
*"Hate me or love me, I don't care.I know this is the plain truth which will never see the light of the day to the cowards that are afraid to be told as it is".*

Railway: Amaechi Accuses Chinese Firm Of Breaching Contract

Nigeria is to take delivery of 10 additional coaches that will be deployed on the Abuja-Kaduna and Lagos-Ibadan rail lines.

It was gathered that the coaches were meant to arrive in Nigeria from China by June this year and they are part of the 64 coaches being manufactured for Nigerian rail lines by the Chinese Railway Rolling stock Corporation.

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who disclosed this when he led a delegation to China to inspect the pace of work at the CRRC, also stated that the Chinese corporation had failed to meet the contract delivery date as agreed.

He was quoted in a statement issued on Monday by the Federal Ministry of Transportation as saying, “We need the coaches by June latest. We need coaches that can carry men from one point to another and we need a minimum of 10 coaches now out of the 64. I requested for 10 coaches now because we need to improve on the Kaduna-Abuja line.

“If the 10 (coaches) don’t come, there is nothing I can do but they have to come because they have to manufacture for us to use in Kaduna-Abuja and again Lagos-Ibadan, which will soon be ready. We also have to ensure that we get coaches that we can use pending when they finish the construction of the 64 coaches.”

Amaechi said the pace of work was slow and urged the manufacturers to improve on it, adding that the contract had expired.

He said, “The pace of construction is slow and they need to improve on it. In fact, the contract has expired; we may not have paid all the money but we paid quite a substantial sum and, therefore, they should construct speedily.

“The contract was signed in December 2017 and was supposed to expire in February 2019. The time has expired and there is a breach of contract but we will look at what the law says because more than one third of the money has been paid.”

The minister, however, pointed out that the issue was not with CRRC but a contract between Nigeria and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, adding that the matter would be addressed in Nigeria.

The General Manager, CRRC, Zhou Junnian, explained that the passenger coach components were 100 per cent from China and materials for the works depended on the speed of the product and the customer’s requirements.

He noted that in future, CRRC would work with the CCECC to meet the high standard and quality needed to finish the projects.

Amaechi also visited the CRRC Shandong facility to inspect the cargo wagons being built for Nigeria, where he disclosed that there was a verbal agreement with the CCECC to localise the railway industry in Nigeria which was supposed to produce 15 per cent of the coaches, locomotives and wagons.

The minister said, “We had a verbal agreement for them to produce 15 per cent of the coaches, locomotives and wagons. They came back and said it was too expensive to establish locomotives and coaches factory and that we can start with the wagon and do 100 per cent assembly in Nigeria for the first five years. After the first five years, they will now build a factory that will manufacture wagons in Nigeria.

“It is not part of the contract we signed in 2017 but I insisted that for me to sign, they must localise it to create more jobs and reduce the expenditure of foreign exchange. Instead of going to buy dollars, you pay the Chinese in their local currency.

“We have to go further to ask them if we can own it. We have not talked about ownership but what we said was localise it. Although they are using their profit to build it, you can make them hand over the ownership to Nigeria. As for the assembly plant, I intended for Zaria but they chose Kajola in Ogun state.”

Amaechi further directed the Nigerian Railway Corporation to provide land for the wagon factory to CCECC before May 8, 2019.
